Volunteer Support Persons
Volunteers provide support to people affected by mental health issues who are living in the community in the northern suburbs of Brisbane.
Group 61 looks after its volunteers
- Volunteers are covered by Personal Accident Insurance.
- Once a month volunteers meet to support and share in confidence with one another.
- The Group 61 Training Course prepares the volunteer to be confident and competent.
- Out of pocket expenses are met by the group.
Mission Statement
To let a person affected by a mental illness know that he or she is accepted, valued and loved unconditionally.
Job Description
- To take your friend for an outing on a regular basis, preferably weekly
- To encourage good nutrition, exercise, meaningful activity, cultural interests and spiritual growth
- To encourage your friend to have a number of regular friendships
- To bring your friend to Group 61 BBQs
- To support other volunteers by attending the Group 61 monthly meeting.
Optional Commitment
To attend the monthly Management Committee meeting.
Working Hours
Volunteers consult with their friend to arrange a time for the morning or afternoon outing. No outings are held at night or on Sunday.
Outings
Volunteers may operate alone or in pairs. Other arrangements are also available depending on the requirements.
What is Required ?
- Could you be a good listener?
- Are you aged 20 years or more?
Can you usually
- give a few hours a week for an outing
- attend a monthly meeting and
- come to the BBQ s (every second month)?
